The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa

From Goodreads : Ash, former prince of the Winter Court, gave up everything. His title, his home, even his vow of loyalty. All for a girl… and all for nothing.

Unless he can earn a soul.

To cold, emotionless faery prince Ash, love was a weakness for mortals and fools. His own love had died a horrible death, killing any gentler feelings the Winter prince might have had. Or so he thought.

Then Meghan Chase—a half human, half fey slip of a girl— smashed through his barricades, binding him to her irrevocably with his oath to be her knight. And when all of Faery nearly fell to the Iron fey, she severed their bond to save his life. Meghan is now the Iron Queen, ruler of a realm where no Winter or Summer fey can survive.

With the (unwelcome) company of his archrival, Summer Court prankster Puck, and the infuriating cait sith Grimalkin, Ash begins a journey he is bound to see through to its end— a quest to find a way to honor his solemn vow to stand by Meghan’s side.

To survive in the Iron realm, Ash must have a soul and a mortal body. But the tests he must face to earn these things are impossible. At least, no one has ever passed to tell the tale.

And then Ash learns something that changes everything. A truth that turns reality upside down, challenges his darkest beliefs and shows him that, sometimes, it takes more than courage to make the ultimate sacrifice.

My rating : 5 of 5 stars

My Thoughts : From this day forth, I vow to protect Meghan Chase, daughter of the Summer King, with my sword, my honor and my life. Should even the world stand against her, my blade will be at her side. And should it fail to protect her, let my own life be forfeit.

I must say I have taken a brave attempt to write the review of The Iron Knight when I’m out of my words how to praise this book. How can I describe how much I loved this book when I’m still lost in thoughts and my hands are numb and shaking to write this review? The Iron Knight is an EPIC romance of this decade, I doubt I will ever be able to love any other book like I loved this one, its characters.

The last three book of this series was form point of view of Meghan Chase, this one is narrated by Ashallayn’darkmyr Tallyn, our very own Prince Ash, his quest to find a way to be mortal and be with his Iron Queen Meghan. In his journey he was accompanied by his old rival summer court prankster Robin “Puck” Goodfellow, Grimalkin the wise cat, the big bad Wolf, and his lost love Ariella who were assumed dead in previous books.

No book has ever made me cry like The Iron Knight. I cried when Ash attempted to end Puck life suppressed by ever burning rage of lost and pain, Puck stood still gazing directly into Ash with his bright green eyes confessing his love for Meghan, his pain, his loss, I cried when Ariella helped them in their quest sacrificing her love and life for Ash.

I felt empty when I finished this book, I felt something has gone from my life, something has ended.

Julie Kagawa did a fantastic job, what a captivating, mesmerizing writing. Julie Kagawa knows how to bring our imagination into pages, she took us into a memorable journey, showed us an unseen fey world. I felt myself as a part this team marching forward through the fairy territory to the end of the world in order fulfill the quest.

Knight In Shinning Armor

I have come from the End of the World.... From the River of Dreams, through the gauntlet and the Briar and the Deep Wyld, in order to stand before you today. I have but one request - to take my place at your side. To resume my duty as your knight, and to protect you and your kingdom for as long as I draw breath.

Ashallayn’darkmyr Tallyn you are the best male protagonist I have ever came through. He is the true knight, who doesn’t know how to step back from keeping his oath, made impossible into possible for his love. He is the dream guy of any girl. As we knew Ash has an icy cold barrier surrounding his heart which beats for Meghan, the only girl whose touch has melted the ice away. But in this book we also felt the warmth of his heart too, haunted by guilt, torn between past and present, we felt his nightmares, his pain, his love and fierce devotion for the one girl, we saw the true Ash who sometime can be vulnerable. He didn’t hesitate once to sacrifice everything he has. Ash and Meghan went through a lot to be with each other and they deserve a happy ending, I’m just glad that Ash finally found his way to his love.

The Summer Prankster

So I waited, and I did my job. For years, I protected her, biding my time, until the day she went into the Nevernever after her brother. And then you came along. And I saw how she looked at you. And for the first time, I wanted to kill you as much as you wanted to kill me.

Puck is as always dynamic, brought smile into my lips throughout the whole book. In spite of his all attempts to hide his emotional distress I felt his pain of losing the one and only girl he has ever loved to the person he shared a cold enmity for centuries. Puck taught me love doesn’t mean to be with the person, love means to make that person happy, even if it costs sacrificing your feelings. I may adore Ash but I’m a more Puck girl. I tried hard to refrain my tears each and every time I realized how much torture it is for Puck to wear a mask of fake smile while his is heart is burning in pain. He never showed how much he felt guilty for bearing the death of Ariella on his conscience, we realized his grief of losing Arilla and his pain of losing his best friend. He fought off every obstacle, every danger shoulder in shoulder with Ash, without Puck, the story is incomplete.

Turning Point

Bringing Ariella back was the most surprising element of the story, she just made a big place in my heart. I sucked my breath, tried hard to hold back my tears to watch her to sacrifice herself so that Ash can be with his love. She loved Ash soooo much, still she never let her love came into his way. That’s what I call true love.

How can I forget cute Grim, Awwwww, I love you. Without you Ash and Puck would be lost, You are the most wise, witty guide and loyal friend.

I truly doubt without Puck and Ariella, Grim and the Wolf, Ash would ever be able to find his way back to Meghan.

This book is a heart wrenching romantic fantasy novel, it took my breath away.

Thank you very much Julie Kagawa for such a wonderful gift. This whole series will remain forever in core of my heart.

Cover Reveal : The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa

A Short Summery From Goodreads :
You will kill. The only question is when.

In the dark days since the insidious Red Lung virus decimated the human population, vampires have risen to rule the crumbling cities and suburbs. Uncontested Princes hold sway over diminished ranks of humans: their "pets." In exchange for their labor, loyalty and of course, their blood, these pets are registered, given food and shelter, permitted to survive.

Unregistered humans cling to fringes, scavenging for survival. Allison Sekemoto and her fellow Unregistereds are hunted, not only by vampires, but by rabids, the unholy result of Red Lung-infected vampires feeding on unwary humans. One night, Allie is attacked by a pack of rabids, saved by an unlikely hero...and turned vampire.

Uncomfortable in her undead skin, Allie falls in with a ragtag crew of humans seeking a cure, or cures: for Rabidism and for Vampirism. She's passing for human...for now. But the hunger is growing and will not be denied. Not for friendship—not even for love

Update : Julie Kawaga finally revealed the cover of her next sensation The Immortal Rules, first book is the series of Blood of Eden on her blog. All The Iron Fey fans hold your breath, this not going to be the same as The Iron Fey. The Immortal Rules is the story of girl named Alison on the premises of a vampire infested futuristic world.
"Allison, the heroine of 'The Immortal Rules,' is a much different character then Meghan Chase of the 'Iron Fey'," Julie said. "Her world is darker, more savage, which has turned her into a fighter and someone who doesn't trust easily. As a human, Allie was snarky and sarcastic. As a vampire, Allie is snarky and sarcastic, and carries a sharp sword."
I can understand all of you are pulling your hair out to get this book on hand especially after reading the exclusive prologue in the end of The Iron Knight. Don’t be frustrated , The Immortal Rules will hit the market of YA novels on April 24, 2012. So start counting you days. I believe the cover is bloody gorgeous and the book is going to be deadly with forbidden romance.

Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

From Goodreads : Just your average boy-meets-girl, girl-kills-people story. . .

Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.

So did his father before him, until his gruesome murder by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father's mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay.

When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn't expect anything outside of the ordinary: move, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he's never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, but now stained red and dripping blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.

And she, for whatever reason, spares his life.

My rating : 5 of 5 stars

My thoughts : My gut told me that she wasn’t just a story. And besides, I wanted to see her, dressed in blood. I was too busy thinking about the dead, and about one dead girl in particular, wearing a beautiful dress, stained red with her own blood.

Theseus Cassio Lowood or Cas isn’t a not a ordinary teen from a conventional family. His mother is a wiccan white witch and his father was in a business of killing ghosts before was ate by a deadly one he went to kill. Cas has inherited his father’s courage and Athame, a powerful knife of killing ghost and took up the killing business only at age of 14. Now after killing 23 rd ghosts, he got a letter from a small town called Thunder Bay. The letter was about a ghost Anna.

Anna Korlov was murdered in 1958 at sixteen, when she was on her way to school dance. Her throat was slit open, her body was found the next day, covered with flies, and her white dress stained with blood. That’s why they called her “Anna dressed in blood”. Now her ghost is stuck in her house and she’s killing everyone who tried to enter there.

The story binding is very nice and intriguing. It kept me sit tight on my ass and read it. Full of suspense and action with romantic hint. After a long time I have read a book which made me think “oh dear, what’s gonna happen next?”. This book has double climax. The first one will make you think that’s it, and after the first climax things will take new turn full of events that makes your blood running fast in excitement.

In second climax Cas came face to face with his real adversary, things went wrong and ended up in a terrifying way, made my mouth open. At the end I never felt I just finished the book, cause I wanted to read more, so I left unsatisfied and waiting for
Girl of Nightmares

Cas is worthy of a protagonist, he doesn’t have any superpower yet he’s a superhero in my eyes. He’s intelligent, smart, courageous, full with common senses and impressing fighting skills. He’s so mature like a man only at age of 17, capable of taking decisions on his own, never being confused before he met Anna. I can’t deny that I completely like him.

Anna, oh Anna you seriously kicked some ass girl. Anna is very unpredictable like her appearance. Cas never faced a ghost like her. They say every coin has two sides, so does Anna. She is victim of a brutal crime and murderer of innocents. Anna doesn’t want to kill but she kills against her will. She has strong guilty concerns for what she did so far. You will never hate her, you will feel sympathized with her just like Cas did. She’s a combination of bright and black, good and bad but she’s definitely not a evil.

She’s with me. She’s my purpose and we’re going to save each other. We’re going to save everyone. And then I’m going to convince her that she’s supposed to stay here. With me.

When Cas met her everything changes, he started to doubt his own decision to hunt her. Attachment between Cas and Anna grows up slowly as the story progresses, ended up with deep feelings, an impossible love for each other. Well boy meets girl, they save each other, fight together hand in hand and Bang. Man! love just happens, who plans for it.

And how can I forget Carmel and Thomas, without them the team is incomplete. I liked Carmel, she’s the prom queen but not a bimbo like other queen bees we see in movies. She’s actually smart. Thomas is the physic best friend of Cas, without his help Cas couldn’t have survived that long. Well his kinda cute.

So for me this book is a 4.5, recommended for lovers of paranormal romance and suspense.

WARNING: Don’t read this book at night, it may scare the hell out of you and sometimes make you heart jump to your throat, so hold you heart while reading.

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

From Goodreads : The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate percentage of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance between her and the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend America, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the charming college co-ed. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his charms, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’ apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

My rating : 4 of 5 stars

My Thoughts : Bad boy + Good girl = HOT ROMANCE, and that exactly happened in Beautiful Disaster.

Abby Abernathy left her past behind and started her life fresh, no alcohol, trying hard to get good grades. This was supposed to be her peaceful perfect life until a boy enters and ruined her plan for “goody goody” life in good way.

Travis Madox is exactly the kind of boy Abby should stay away. He fights, he drinks, slept with every other girl in each night and his “sexy body” is covered with tattoos. He tricked Abby in a simple bet with the condition if Abby loses she will stay in his apartment for one month and if he loses he will remain abstinent for one month.

I just loved this book, the friendship-love crash, all the sexual tension between Abby and Travis, I loved when they first met, I loved their each crazy moment of spending together. The concept of two people from two different worlds falling in love is old but this book??? It just blew me away.

I’m not fond of bad boys but Travis Madox changed my view, made me fall in love with him. His supper sexy attitude took my heart. Nothing is impossible for him, on one hand he’s a skill fighter and on other hand he’s the brilliant student with constant A levels. He’s “crazy crazy” love for Abby brought tears in my eyes, when will I get such a lover . Sometime he’s over possessiveness irritated me, I can understand he never fall in love with any one before, every feelings is new for him, insecurity would be a normal gesture for him but this level of jealousy has really bothered me.

Abby is a good girl, a really very very good girl always tries to avoid problems, but what can you do when trouble finds you. I liked Abby, she won my heart. Where every girl in Eastern University tries to sleep with Travis, be with Travis. Abby is the only one who resisted him, and that made Travis took interest in her.

I must say how this book shows us how love can change a person upside down. Travis was a complete dick before he met Abby, but when he fall in love he started to change slowly and in the end Travis was full 180 degree opposite of the old one.

The writing was superb, very modern and enjoyable but I’m aware of the sexual content of this book which was high for a YA novel. The book kept its speed and interests untill Travis and Abby entered into a relationship. Starting of their new love was good but after sometimes the story lost its cause and direction.

I hate those moments when Travis and Abby fought when they shouldn’t have, and they broke up for some stupid reason. I believe in a relationship when one makes mistake, the other should deal with it with patience and make his/her partner understand what is right and wrong, they should discuss and sort out the differences , gave thing another chance, not fight with each other and break up. I find Abby and Travis completely immature in this way, WTF man‼‼‼‼!

This book is a 4 star for me, recommended for romance and contemporary lovers. This taught us a good lesson always go for the person you want, not the person you think you need.

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

From Goodreads : Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting as The Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel.

My Rating : 5 of 5 stars

My Thoughts : "I've been locked up for 264 days. I have nothing but a small notebook and a broken pen and the numbers in my head to keep me company. 1 window. 4 walls. 144 square feet of space. 26 letters in an alphabet I haven’t spoken in 264 days of isolation. 6,336 hours since I’ve touched another human being."

The Rundown

The last time Juliette touched a little boy and he died. Her touch is lethal, she has a deadly power and whenever she touched someone something bad happened .The Reestablishment locked her in isolation for accusation of murder. Her world of loneliness changed when she got her new cell mate Adam, her old crush from school.

She learned how The Reestablishment is destroying the world, all the books, every artifact, every remnant of human history, saying it’s the only way to fix things and the mistakes of previous generations. with false promise of reestablishing everything. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color. There is whisper of war, people are joining the rebels.

She was adjusting her life in cell with Adam but suddenly betrayal slams on her face. Adam was revealed as a undercover agent of The Reestablishment and they wants her as their new weapon, to use her power to torture innocents. Her world falls apart when Warner the 19 yrs old power hungry son The Reestablishment leader wants her as his new queen. She knows if she doesn't agree, Adam will suffer, If she agrees her soul will be crushed beneath boots of inhumanity.

I really really like this book, the writing style , each line of this book has it's own meaning, and i'm completely impressed.

Sometime I find Juliette fragile, sometime tough, strong.I loved to see her changes with the progress of the story.

Three Burning Fireflies

“I always wonder about raindrops.

I wonder how they're always falling down, tripping over their feet, breaking their legs and forgetting their parachutes as they tumble out of the sky toward an uncertain end. It's like someone is emptying their pockets over the earth and doesn't seem to care where the contents fall, doesn't seem to care that the raindrops burst when they hit the ground, that they shatter when they fall to the floor, that people curse the days the drops dare to tap on their doors.

I am a raindrop.”

Time by time she showed her bravery, i like her moves when she fought with Warner and saved Adam, i like her word which she splits on Warner's face, under such pressure. She may released from asylum, but again locked in Warner's eyes, 24 hrs under camera, she was forced to hide her feeling for Adam. I personally can feel her in this situation when your love is so near but you can't touch him, can't talked to him, can't even look at him.

"I'm oxygen and he's dying to breathe.”

Adam didn't exactly catch my eyes, though his appearance was heroic. He's protective, romantic, charming, willing to risk his life for Juliette, like every heroes do for their girls. Initially i thought he's just a soldier of Reestablishment, i was relived when Adam revealed he's in love with Juliette from their school life, he joined Reestablishment to find her. He did all this thing to get near her, to save her from every harm. He has always been in love with her, no matter what she is.

"Adam stares at me so long I begin to blush. He tips my chin up so I meet his eyes. Blue blue blue boring into me. His voice is deep, steady. "I don't think I've ever heard you laugh."

He's so excruciatingly correct I don't know how to respond except with the truth. My smile is tucked into a straight line. "Laughter comes from living." I shrug, try to sound indifferent. "I've never really been alive before.”

It was actaully Warner who caught my eyes, not Adam. OMG, i have so much to write about him. He's too sexy in a devilish way. It's really hard to ignore his presence. I just couldn't hate him through out the book.

"His skin is flawless, unblemished, his jawline sharp and strong. His eyes are the palest shade of emerald I’ve ever seen. He’s beautiful. His crooked smile is calculated evil."

Warner was obsessed with Juliette, he researched everything about her from past 3 years. His love was hunger, possessive, like and growing fire, the more you run, the more it will try to trap you in it's flames. I believe Warner is just a guy haunted by loneliness, tormented by his past, always craved for love.

"You’ve suppressed all your rage and resentment because you wanted to be loved,” he says, no longer smiling. “Maybe I understand you, Juliette. Maybe you should trust me. Maybe you should accept the fact that you’ve tried to be someone you’re not for so long and that no matter what you did, those bastards were never happy. They were never satisfied. They never gave a damn, did they?” He looks at me and for a moment he seems almost human. For a moment I want to believe him. For a moment I want to sit on the floor and cry out the ocean lodged in my

“It’s time you stopped pretending,” he says, so softly.

“Juliette—” He takes my face in his gloved hands, so unexpectedly gentle.

Warner has some powers too. People are intimidated by him, so they listen when he speaks, and when he finds out about Juliette he thought she's like him, hated by the world, a loner girl longing for love, hungry for power just like him. I must say he always tried to love her, showed her affection. He thought he understand her, protecting her, he could win her, but sadly his thought was wrong, his way of approaching was wicked, instead it kept hurting her more and more.

"You think that because I am unwanted, because I am neglected and—and discarded—” My voice inches higher with every word, the unrestrained emotions suddenly screaming through my lungs. “You think I don’t have a heart? You think I don’t feel? You think that because I can inflict pain, that I should? You’re just like everyone else. You think I’m a monster just like every one else. You don’t understand me at all—”

I loved the writing style which is different for conventional writing , the lines which are truly amazing, I loved how the author had portrait all the characters beautifully. Being a new author she did incredible job.

This book original but has pretty much similar with Mockingjay , the same power Vs rebels, same underground base giving shelter to the homeless, same rage among people against rules and rulers. Same biasing between commoners and authorities. Well, if you have ever seen X men you will find out some similarities of power between the characters. Still i love this book and couldn't put this down in excitement. It's truly a interesting, a must read book for all dystopia fans and now i'm eagerly waiting for the next one in this series.

Hey Warner, hope to see you soon in next book.

Ember by Bettie Sharpe

From Goodreads : Everyone loves Prince Charming. They have to—he’s cursed. Every man must respect him. Every woman must desire him. One look, and all is lost.

Ember would rather carve out a piece of her soul than be enslaved by passions not her own. She turns to the dark arts to save her heart and becomes the one woman in the kingdom able to resist the Prince’s Charm.

Poor girl. If Ember had spent less time studying magic and more time studying human nature, she might have guessed that a man who gets everything and everyone he wants will come to want the one woman he cannot have.

Novella / 32,000 words

Warning: This story contains sex, violence, and naughty words.
It’s based on a fairytale, but it isn’t for kids.

Note: This story is available as a free read on the author's website: www.bettiesharpe.com

My rating : 2 of 5 stars

My Thoughts : Oh God, i like this book now. I thought this book would be some vulgar version of Cinderella, but this book proved me wrong. yes there is some unusual description of sexual act, other than that this book is written is a interesting way.
It's a retelling of Cinderella with some dark twist. Ember, the main protagonist is a red haired witch who has freckles all over her face and neck and a twisted led. She's not perfect at all by her looks but smart and wicked girl (which i like about her). She cut her finger in order to resist prince's charm but she couldn't protect her heart for the prince himself. The price is perfect in all the way, every one loves him, adore him and respect him other than Ember which made the prince longing for her more and more. The most noticeable things about this book is absent of fairy god mother (goodness Ember is a Smart witch, she's her own fairy god mother) and her love and affection for her step mother and sisters who loved and cared for her like there own.
The thing made me like this book more is that as Ember protected herself from the Price's charm she saw the true self of prince and fell for him in the way he is, i mean this act of love is good teaching for every one that looks doesn't matter, the matter is the true person lying beneath your skin, your true heart.

Entrapped by Sneha Kedar by Sneha Kedar

From Goodreads : What would you do when you start hearing mysterious voices in your dreams saying “We are trapped… free us?"
What if these voices keep coming back to haunt you?

There is something unusual about the seventeen-year-old Myra Bose. Born to human parents, she is a fairy, who soon starts her new journey at Fae High – a high school for faes and fairies all over the world. This strange new life was not enough to add to Myra’s troubles, she also starts getting strange dreams with mysterious voices, which she is unable to comprehend. They keep her entrapped perpetually.

The recurring dreams will unfold many dark secrets. Myra has lots of things to handle – her attention seeking first love Ryan Swift, her trustworthy new friends and the never-ending haunting dreams. Will her life get any better at Fae High? Will Myra ever find out the voices behind the dreams? When her love, Ryan demands her attention, what would be her first priority?

My rating : 2 of 5 stars

My Thoughts : First of all i'm a fantasy and fairy lover, but this book is childish, for the middle grades, not YAs. While reading this i was feeling i'm watching a Barbie in a fairy tell movie. I enjoyed this book but it's not a book you can read twice.

What i like about this book is the idea of fae school and the four elements which influences fairies to get their power and bond of friendship.

The main draw backs are lack of suspense and romance both. The author should have created more exciting environment when she revealed Myra is a fairy.Ugh, the chemistry between Ryan and Myra is nothing like i expected (again their romance was like Barbie and ken). I expected Ryan to be more heroic but he's not, and his character was too short. There should be mystery about those traps or describe more about the forest, the mysterious creatures living forest, the environment and history of the fae school and dark magics. The fight sequence in the end was very short, i was surprised how could those students defeated dark witches so easily(BANG another drawback). It's would be embarrassing if i compare this book with Iron fey or Wicked lovely. But i must say the language is easy and fun. Best of luck for the author for her next book.

P.S. i like the cover, but never judge a book by it's cover

Darker Still by Leanna Renee Hieber

From Goodreads : I was obsessed.

It was as if he called to me, demanding I reach out and touch the brushstrokes of color swirled onto the canvas. It was the most exquisite portrait I'd ever seen--everything about Lord Denbury was unbelievable...utterly breathtaking and eerily lifelike.

There was a reason for that. Because despite what everyone said, Denbury never had committed suicide. He was alive. Trapped within his golden frame.

I've crossed over into his world within the painting, and I've seen what dreams haunt him. They haunt me too. He and I are inextricably linked--bound together to watch the darkness seeping through the gas-lit cobblestone streets of Manhattan. Unless I can free him soon, things will only get Darker Still.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

My Thoughts : Darker Still is inspired from old Classic Dorian Gray and myth of Jack the ripper. So i would say the theme is old but representation is new. I'm bored with all these vampire and werewolf fiction flooding the market of YA novels, that's why i picked up this book and really it has a different concept. The book is written in not only a first person narrative but in a dairy style. The writing is very good, represented 1880's speaking style, and i felt the girl really existed and wrote the diary.

Setting in premises 1882's New York, the story features a 17 yrs old mute girl Natalie, just returned from asylum of disable students. When she saw the portrait of Lord Denbury aka Jonathan Whitby, she became obsessed with it and managed her father to get her a job in Metropolitan museum so she be close to the painting. She came to learn the portrait was finished short after death of the Lord Denbury and it's haunted. With the help of an wealthy spiritualist women

Mrs. Evelyn North, Natalie found out Denbury wasn't dead, rather his soul is trapped in the portrait and his body was using by a demon for very evil and wicked purpose, Now she entered into a very dangerous quest to save and free Denbury's soul and end up falling in love with him.

Natalie was a very strong and intelligent girl. When she saw her mother died in front of her, she became mute in shock, but her disability couldn't stop her from pursuing knowledge and expanding the world. Gifted by other strong senses, she turned her disability into her strength. I like the way she investigate the whole case without fearing for her life and saved other girls from being slay and kicked the ass of our dear "JACK" fiend. You deserve a standing ovation girl.

Lord Denbury , you are a passionate man, you cared for this innocent girl's safety more than your freedom, you are a true gentleman.

The romance between Lord Denbury and Natalie was intense, thinking of their last good bye, i'm blushing, OMG it was "that" romantic.

Mrs Evelyn Northe, how can i forget you, you are a wise women. You played you part more than well and help Natalie in her journey. You are the shade upon her head, protected her from every harm like her own mother.

So it's a 3.5 star. I would have given this book a 4 star, but i couldn't because it's a really slow book(should have speed up a little more), and left me unsatisfied with some question.

1. what was the intention of the devil??( of course gaining power but his motive and history is unclear)

2. why did the devil choose Jonathon and called him John??(there must be some specific reason, again not clear)

3. is there any relation between the devil and Benthop?? (not clear either)

4. why in the end Crenfall became mad and accused for every thing he didn't do including murders, of course he wasn't a good person but i couldn't get what really happened in the end.

I hope every will be clear next installment.
