Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

From Goodreads : The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate percentage of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance between her and the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend America, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the charming college co-ed. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his charms, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’ apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

My rating : 4 of 5 stars

My Thoughts : Bad boy + Good girl = HOT ROMANCE, and that exactly happened in Beautiful Disaster.

Abby Abernathy left her past behind and started her life fresh, no alcohol, trying hard to get good grades. This was supposed to be her peaceful perfect life until a boy enters and ruined her plan for “goody goody” life in good way.

Travis Madox is exactly the kind of boy Abby should stay away. He fights, he drinks, slept with every other girl in each night and his “sexy body” is covered with tattoos. He tricked Abby in a simple bet with the condition if Abby loses she will stay in his apartment for one month and if he loses he will remain abstinent for one month.

I just loved this book, the friendship-love crash, all the sexual tension between Abby and Travis, I loved when they first met, I loved their each crazy moment of spending together. The concept of two people from two different worlds falling in love is old but this book??? It just blew me away.

I’m not fond of bad boys but Travis Madox changed my view, made me fall in love with him. His supper sexy attitude took my heart. Nothing is impossible for him, on one hand he’s a skill fighter and on other hand he’s the brilliant student with constant A levels. He’s “crazy crazy” love for Abby brought tears in my eyes, when will I get such a lover . Sometime he’s over possessiveness irritated me, I can understand he never fall in love with any one before, every feelings is new for him, insecurity would be a normal gesture for him but this level of jealousy has really bothered me.

Abby is a good girl, a really very very good girl always tries to avoid problems, but what can you do when trouble finds you. I liked Abby, she won my heart. Where every girl in Eastern University tries to sleep with Travis, be with Travis. Abby is the only one who resisted him, and that made Travis took interest in her.

I must say how this book shows us how love can change a person upside down. Travis was a complete dick before he met Abby, but when he fall in love he started to change slowly and in the end Travis was full 180 degree opposite of the old one.

The writing was superb, very modern and enjoyable but I’m aware of the sexual content of this book which was high for a YA novel. The book kept its speed and interests untill Travis and Abby entered into a relationship. Starting of their new love was good but after sometimes the story lost its cause and direction.

I hate those moments when Travis and Abby fought when they shouldn’t have, and they broke up for some stupid reason. I believe in a relationship when one makes mistake, the other should deal with it with patience and make his/her partner understand what is right and wrong, they should discuss and sort out the differences , gave thing another chance, not fight with each other and break up. I find Abby and Travis completely immature in this way, WTF man‼‼‼‼!

This book is a 4 star for me, recommended for romance and contemporary lovers. This taught us a good lesson always go for the person you want, not the person you think you need.

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

From Goodreads : Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting as The Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel.

My Rating : 5 of 5 stars

My Thoughts : "I've been locked up for 264 days. I have nothing but a small notebook and a broken pen and the numbers in my head to keep me company. 1 window. 4 walls. 144 square feet of space. 26 letters in an alphabet I haven’t spoken in 264 days of isolation. 6,336 hours since I’ve touched another human being."

The Rundown

The last time Juliette touched a little boy and he died. Her touch is lethal, she has a deadly power and whenever she touched someone something bad happened .The Reestablishment locked her in isolation for accusation of murder. Her world of loneliness changed when she got her new cell mate Adam, her old crush from school.

She learned how The Reestablishment is destroying the world, all the books, every artifact, every remnant of human history, saying it’s the only way to fix things and the mistakes of previous generations. with false promise of reestablishing everything. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color. There is whisper of war, people are joining the rebels.

She was adjusting her life in cell with Adam but suddenly betrayal slams on her face. Adam was revealed as a undercover agent of The Reestablishment and they wants her as their new weapon, to use her power to torture innocents. Her world falls apart when Warner the 19 yrs old power hungry son The Reestablishment leader wants her as his new queen. She knows if she doesn't agree, Adam will suffer, If she agrees her soul will be crushed beneath boots of inhumanity.

I really really like this book, the writing style , each line of this book has it's own meaning, and i'm completely impressed.

Sometime I find Juliette fragile, sometime tough, strong.I loved to see her changes with the progress of the story.

Three Burning Fireflies

“I always wonder about raindrops.

I wonder how they're always falling down, tripping over their feet, breaking their legs and forgetting their parachutes as they tumble out of the sky toward an uncertain end. It's like someone is emptying their pockets over the earth and doesn't seem to care where the contents fall, doesn't seem to care that the raindrops burst when they hit the ground, that they shatter when they fall to the floor, that people curse the days the drops dare to tap on their doors.

I am a raindrop.”

Time by time she showed her bravery, i like her moves when she fought with Warner and saved Adam, i like her word which she splits on Warner's face, under such pressure. She may released from asylum, but again locked in Warner's eyes, 24 hrs under camera, she was forced to hide her feeling for Adam. I personally can feel her in this situation when your love is so near but you can't touch him, can't talked to him, can't even look at him.

"I'm oxygen and he's dying to breathe.”

Adam didn't exactly catch my eyes, though his appearance was heroic. He's protective, romantic, charming, willing to risk his life for Juliette, like every heroes do for their girls. Initially i thought he's just a soldier of Reestablishment, i was relived when Adam revealed he's in love with Juliette from their school life, he joined Reestablishment to find her. He did all this thing to get near her, to save her from every harm. He has always been in love with her, no matter what she is.

"Adam stares at me so long I begin to blush. He tips my chin up so I meet his eyes. Blue blue blue boring into me. His voice is deep, steady. "I don't think I've ever heard you laugh."

He's so excruciatingly correct I don't know how to respond except with the truth. My smile is tucked into a straight line. "Laughter comes from living." I shrug, try to sound indifferent. "I've never really been alive before.”

It was actaully Warner who caught my eyes, not Adam. OMG, i have so much to write about him. He's too sexy in a devilish way. It's really hard to ignore his presence. I just couldn't hate him through out the book.

"His skin is flawless, unblemished, his jawline sharp and strong. His eyes are the palest shade of emerald I’ve ever seen. He’s beautiful. His crooked smile is calculated evil."

Warner was obsessed with Juliette, he researched everything about her from past 3 years. His love was hunger, possessive, like and growing fire, the more you run, the more it will try to trap you in it's flames. I believe Warner is just a guy haunted by loneliness, tormented by his past, always craved for love.

"You’ve suppressed all your rage and resentment because you wanted to be loved,” he says, no longer smiling. “Maybe I understand you, Juliette. Maybe you should trust me. Maybe you should accept the fact that you’ve tried to be someone you’re not for so long and that no matter what you did, those bastards were never happy. They were never satisfied. They never gave a damn, did they?” He looks at me and for a moment he seems almost human. For a moment I want to believe him. For a moment I want to sit on the floor and cry out the ocean lodged in my

throat.

“It’s time you stopped pretending,” he says, so softly.

“Juliette—” He takes my face in his gloved hands, so unexpectedly gentle.

Warner has some powers too. People are intimidated by him, so they listen when he speaks, and when he finds out about Juliette he thought she's like him, hated by the world, a loner girl longing for love, hungry for power just like him. I must say he always tried to love her, showed her affection. He thought he understand her, protecting her, he could win her, but sadly his thought was wrong, his way of approaching was wicked, instead it kept hurting her more and more.

"You think that because I am unwanted, because I am neglected and—and discarded—” My voice inches higher with every word, the unrestrained emotions suddenly screaming through my lungs. “You think I don’t have a heart? You think I don’t feel? You think that because I can inflict pain, that I should? You’re just like everyone else. You think I’m a monster just like every one else. You don’t understand me at all—”

I loved the writing style which is different for conventional writing , the lines which are truly amazing, I loved how the author had portrait all the characters beautifully. Being a new author she did incredible job.

This book original but has pretty much similar with Mockingjay , the same power Vs rebels, same underground base giving shelter to the homeless, same rage among people against rules and rulers. Same biasing between commoners and authorities. Well, if you have ever seen X men you will find out some similarities of power between the characters. Still i love this book and couldn't put this down in excitement. It's truly a interesting, a must read book for all dystopia fans and now i'm eagerly waiting for the next one in this series.

Hey Warner, hope to see you soon in next book.

Ember by Bettie Sharpe

From Goodreads : Everyone loves Prince Charming. They have to—he’s cursed. Every man must respect him. Every woman must desire him. One look, and all is lost.

Ember would rather carve out a piece of her soul than be enslaved by passions not her own. She turns to the dark arts to save her heart and becomes the one woman in the kingdom able to resist the Prince’s Charm.

Poor girl. If Ember had spent less time studying magic and more time studying human nature, she might have guessed that a man who gets everything and everyone he wants will come to want the one woman he cannot have.

Novella / 32,000 words

Warning: This story contains sex, violence, and naughty words.
It’s based on a fairytale, but it isn’t for kids.

Note: This story is available as a free read on the author's website: www.bettiesharpe.com

My rating : 2 of 5 stars

My Thoughts : Oh God, i like this book now. I thought this book would be some vulgar version of Cinderella, but this book proved me wrong. yes there is some unusual description of sexual act, other than that this book is written is a interesting way.
It's a retelling of Cinderella with some dark twist. Ember, the main protagonist is a red haired witch who has freckles all over her face and neck and a twisted led. She's not perfect at all by her looks but smart and wicked girl (which i like about her). She cut her finger in order to resist prince's charm but she couldn't protect her heart for the prince himself. The price is perfect in all the way, every one loves him, adore him and respect him other than Ember which made the prince longing for her more and more. The most noticeable things about this book is absent of fairy god mother (goodness Ember is a Smart witch, she's her own fairy god mother) and her love and affection for her step mother and sisters who loved and cared for her like there own.
The thing made me like this book more is that as Ember protected herself from the Price's charm she saw the true self of prince and fell for him in the way he is, i mean this act of love is good teaching for every one that looks doesn't matter, the matter is the true person lying beneath your skin, your true heart.

My rating : 2 of 5 stars

My Thoughts : First of all i'm a fantasy and fairy lover, but this book is childish, for the middle grades, not YAs. While reading this i was feeling i'm watching a Barbie in a fairy tell movie. I enjoyed this book but it's not a book you can read twice.

What i like about this book is the idea of fae school and the four elements which influences fairies to get their power and bond of friendship.

The main draw backs are lack of suspense and romance both. The author should have created more exciting environment when she revealed Myra is a fairy.Ugh, the chemistry between Ryan and Myra is nothing like i expected (again their romance was like Barbie and ken). I expected Ryan to be more heroic but he's not, and his character was too short. There should be mystery about those traps or describe more about the forest, the mysterious creatures living forest, the environment and history of the fae school and dark magics. The fight sequence in the end was very short, i was surprised how could those students defeated dark witches so easily(BANG another drawback). It's would be embarrassing if i compare this book with Iron fey or Wicked lovely. But i must say the language is easy and fun. Best of luck for the author for her next book.

P.S. i like the cover, but never judge a book by it's cover

Darker Still by Leanna Renee Hieber

From Goodreads : I was obsessed.

It was as if he called to me, demanding I reach out and touch the brushstrokes of color swirled onto the canvas. It was the most exquisite portrait I'd ever seen--everything about Lord Denbury was unbelievable...utterly breathtaking and eerily lifelike.

There was a reason for that. Because despite what everyone said, Denbury never had committed suicide. He was alive. Trapped within his golden frame.

I've crossed over into his world within the painting, and I've seen what dreams haunt him. They haunt me too. He and I are inextricably linked--bound together to watch the darkness seeping through the gas-lit cobblestone streets of Manhattan. Unless I can free him soon, things will only get Darker Still.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

My Thoughts : Darker Still is inspired from old Classic Dorian Gray and myth of Jack the ripper. So i would say the theme is old but representation is new. I'm bored with all these vampire and werewolf fiction flooding the market of YA novels, that's why i picked up this book and really it has a different concept. The book is written in not only a first person narrative but in a dairy style. The writing is very good, represented 1880's speaking style, and i felt the girl really existed and wrote the diary.

Setting in premises 1882's New York, the story features a 17 yrs old mute girl Natalie, just returned from asylum of disable students. When she saw the portrait of Lord Denbury aka Jonathan Whitby, she became obsessed with it and managed her father to get her a job in Metropolitan museum so she be close to the painting. She came to learn the portrait was finished short after death of the Lord Denbury and it's haunted. With the help of an wealthy spiritualist women

Mrs. Evelyn North, Natalie found out Denbury wasn't dead, rather his soul is trapped in the portrait and his body was using by a demon for very evil and wicked purpose, Now she entered into a very dangerous quest to save and free Denbury's soul and end up falling in love with him.

Natalie was a very strong and intelligent girl. When she saw her mother died in front of her, she became mute in shock, but her disability couldn't stop her from pursuing knowledge and expanding the world. Gifted by other strong senses, she turned her disability into her strength. I like the way she investigate the whole case without fearing for her life and saved other girls from being slay and kicked the ass of our dear "JACK" fiend. You deserve a standing ovation girl.

Lord Denbury , you are a passionate man, you cared for this innocent girl's safety more than your freedom, you are a true gentleman.

The romance between Lord Denbury and Natalie was intense, thinking of their last good bye, i'm blushing, OMG it was "that" romantic.

Mrs Evelyn Northe, how can i forget you, you are a wise women. You played you part more than well and help Natalie in her journey. You are the shade upon her head, protected her from every harm like her own mother.

So it's a 3.5 star. I would have given this book a 4 star, but i couldn't because it's a really slow book(should have speed up a little more), and left me unsatisfied with some question.

1. what was the intention of the devil??( of course gaining power but his motive and history is unclear)

2. why did the devil choose Jonathon and called him John??(there must be some specific reason, again not clear)

3. is there any relation between the devil and Benthop?? (not clear either)

4. why in the end Crenfall became mad and accused for every thing he didn't do including murders, of course he wasn't a good person but i couldn't get what really happened in the end.

I hope every will be clear next installment.
